Bose Soundbar 500

ULTRA-HIGH PERFORMANCE WITH AN ULTRA-THIN DESIGN

This stylish soundbar is meant to be heard, not seen. That’s why we’ve engineered custom-designed drivers to keep the Bose Soundbar 500 almost impossibly thin, without taking away from the acoustic excellence Bose is known for. Measuring only 5 centimetres high, its profile fits discreetly under your TV screen, so you won’t even know it’s there – until you hear it. And with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built in, you won’t have to lift a finger.

Like the Bose Soundbar 500, it’s the little things that make a big difference. It may be our thinnest soundbar yet, but its powerful acoustics fill the entire room with sound you just have to hear to believe.

Sounds good, anywhere

ADAPTiQ audio room calibration will optimise its acoustic performance for the unique characteristics of your room – giving you the best possible listening experience.

Elegant lightbar

Not sure the soundbar heard you? An ingenious light bar helps indicate when your voice assistant is listening, thinking or speaking.

Clear voice pickup

Custom-designed microphones in both the front and the back of the soundbar deliver superior voice pickup, so the soundbar will still hear you even when the music is playing loud.

Proprietary drivers

Custom-designed transducers provide superior clarity while maintaining an incredibly slim design.

QuietPort technology

The soundbar’s recessed ports use a piece of resistant screen to reduce turbulent noise while getting more sound through a smaller opening. The result? Virtually distortion-free bass from a slim profile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a great Soundbar! I have been using the BOSE - SOUNDBAR 500 with the BOSE BASS MODULE 500 for a few weeks now and I have to say I am really impressed. I have tried it with my Games console, bluerays, tv both Films and Sport and I have used its connectivity to Spotify functions a lot as we love to play music in our house. Setting up was ok, not the easiest as it didnt want to find my network for a while, but this could easily have been an issue with my wifi rather than the soundbar itself. I tried out the Alexa function, and this seemed to work seamlessly most of the time! However, this has its downsides as now my little boy loves asking for 'Baby Shark' do do do dodo... Anyway. Overall this is a clean, classy soundbar that looks great and sounds perfect... as you'd expect for a Bose product (and the price tag). It may seem expensive to some, but if it is within your price range, I would certainly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. I would recommend ensuring you have the ARC HDMI function with your tv, as this makes everything more seamless. It still sounds great through the Optical though. I would also recommend purchasing the Bass Module, as I feel it needs this bit extra when watching action films and playing on action games. Improves the the sound even further!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A true Cinema-Like Experience Upon opening the delivery, I was majorly excited about unboxing what I knew was packaged. When you open certain products from certain brands, there’s a sense of suspense almost. The packaging will look professional with it’s design, it will feel like a class above any other product on the market and this just adds to the moment. It was the case with the Bose 500 Soundbar and Bass Module. Even before opening the box, I’d already locked onto the thought that this was going to be an exceptional product and *SPOILER ALERT* - My predictions were not incorrect. Often you can find that soundbars, bass modules and home cinema systems overall can look very plasticy, weird material to cover speakers such as a horrible felt can be used or just plain boring and sticks out like a sore thumb in your living space. However, when you compare it with Bose’s product, the on trend, sleek professional design of the black matte and striking, white LEDs that have been used with the curved edges of the technology, it’s easy to say that it stands out from the crowd in a good way. Apart from the premium design, the Bose 500 Soundbar and Bass Module boasts of “Alexa” to allow your smart home be easy accessible through talking to this technology. Once I had got passed the set up with a couple of minor niggles with the Bose Music App, I was provoked to put a peculiar nerdy looking device over my head. This device was the “Adaptiq Audio Calibration” which helps optimise the acoustic performance of the product to the bespoke characteristics of your room. Lots of Sci-fi-esque sounds began to play, seeming to be everywhere around my ears but I was assured that this was all in the name of having the best listening experience possible. After set up, it was time to play/test with this new device and show it’s true capabilities. I listened to my music streaming services and the sound that came from this ultra slim and sleek device was truly remarkable to start off with. I then wanted to test the abilities of punching of different sounds when watching a film. Deep wide sound was instantly provided along with clear dialogue when needed. It couldn't be this good though, surely? What about video games? When I have the odd moment, I do like to indulge in playing my Xbox. I’ve found in the past that nothing quite compares to wearing over the ear headphones to perceive true, 3D Surround Sound. Oh how I was wrong! I could hear exactly where certain sounds were originating from and between you and me, I once or twice turned my head around to make sure that it was definitely coming from the Soundbar and not an intruder in my home. Less about the Sounbar for just a moment though! The Bass Module delivers thunderous bass to heighten the listening experience and only add what the Sounbar already delivers. Everything is customisable to your viewing/listening needs and can be altered from the touch of a button. With the module only being 25cm diameter, it can easily be hidden out of view due to the wireless connectivity. The Amazon Alexa feature in my eyes is most certainly a unique selling point. I like to think that I’ve taken my cosy, Victorian house into the 21st Century with it’s smart home additions. To be able to control all these additions with simply speaking to the Bose Soundbar is such an advantage. This is even the case when the music is very loud and you’re unable to hear yourself think, the clear voice pickup manages to do so using it’s Bose magic. I no longer have to lift a finger again, so my life just got a little bit more lazier, my activity tracker will definitely take another hit. Although I haven't tested the Soundbar nor the Bass Module to destruction, I do know that it will last better than my other sound modules have done so in the past. You get a good quality product with Bose. It may be a little more expensive to start with but with cutting out the need to replace not much longer down the line, you’re reducing the false economy that we’ve been sold by many of Bose’s competitors. In my opinion, it’s designed to be compact, slimline and easy on the eye. This is built to last like many other Bose products and as mentioned, you get a sense of this, just opening the box. It doesn’t sit in front of your television, making a statement piece of itself. Rather, it blends into it’s surroundings and will adhere to your audio and smart home needs. The sound quality is superb and already people have asked me if I had the system professionally installed, which should speak a thousand words and reviews for the Adaptiq Audio Calibration. Bose should definitely be proud of this addition. Once again, I have been overwhelmed at the quality of the product and it looks the part in my living space, subtlety providing the service it brillianty delivers. Like mentioned, it’s outdone other audio products I’ve purchased from other retailers/companies, this is undoubtedly my favorite out of all of them. It’s a true necessity in this current time to own a Soundbar and accompanying audio equipment that can carry out the task needed and it’s built to last. With demands for Televisions getting slimmer which leads to speakers being pretty much non-existent within them or so much of a “tinny” sound, they may as well not be there. As a relatively young professional, with needs for audio quality to be excellent and above the rest, I believe it suited both my needs and the appearance of my home. It gives a professional, cinema-like experience to yourself for a consumer budget.

FAQs

How does the Bose Soundbar 500 connect to my TV?

The simplest way to connect the Bose Soundbar 500 is via the supplied HDMI cable to your TV. If your TV has an HDMI-ARC or HDMI-eARC connection, you should use that connection. If your TV does not have an HDMI connection, then you should connect the Bose Soundbar 500 to the TV using an optical cable.

Can the Bose Soundbar 500 be mounted to the wall?

Yes. The optional, new Bose Soundbar Wall Bracket lets you mount the soundbar to the wall.

How do I run the ADAPTiQ audio calibration system with the Bose Soundbar 500?

ADAPTiQ is part of the overall setup process and driven through the Bose Music app. You will be prompted to run ADAPTiQ after you download the Bose Music app and start the setup process. If you skip running ADAPTiQ during the initial setup process – or change your room significantly after initially running ADAPTiQ – you can go back into the app and do it again. Initiate ADAPTiQ and follow the prompts in the app.

How do I connect a Bluetooth® device to the Bose Soundbar 500?

Press and hold the Bluetooth source button on the remote for several seconds. Ensure your mobile device is in pairing mode and select the Bose Soundbar 500 from the list. You can also pair your mobile device to the soundbar using the Bose Music app.

Does the Bose Soundbar 500 have NFC technology for Bluetooth pairing?

No.

What type of remote is included with the Bose Soundbar 500?

The Bose Soundbar 500 comes with a basic IR remote control. Line-of-sight is required between the remote and the soundbar.

How do I control other devices with the Bose Soundbar remote control?

There are two ways to control other devices: HDMI-CEC and IR. The soundbars may be able to control connected devices (TV, Blu-ray Disc™ player, game console) over HDMI-CEC. This allows you to turn on other devices and operate them with the soundbar remote without any programming. It also enables one-touch access to entertainment, enabling you to turn on multiple devices and select an input with one button press. However, not all devices respond to these commands. In particular, cable and satellite boxes may not respond to HDMI commands. The customer still can control devices that do not respond to HDMI commands by programming the Bose Soundbar Universal Remote, which is an optional accessory for the Bose Soundbar 500.

Does the Bose Soundbar 500 have HDMI-eARC capability?

Yes.

What placement guidelines should be considered to ensure optimal audio performance from the Bose Soundbar 500?

The Bose Soundbar 500 uses the reflective surfaces of the room to deliver a spacious home cinema experience. To ensure optimal audio performance, the soundbar should be placed equidistant from each side wall and directly in the front-centre of the TV. No objects should be placed in front of the soundbar, nor should it be placed recessed inside a cabinet, as this would result in a limited sound stage. Also, nothing should be placed directly on either side of the Bose Soundbar 500 since there are side-firing transducers located on either side.

Can source devices, such as a cable box, iPod, gaming system, etc., be connected directly to the Bose Soundbar 500?

No. All sources must be connected to the TV and then a single connection (via the HDMI or optical cable) must be made from the TV to the soundbar.

Can I make or take calls via the Bose Soundbar 500?

Yes. Using Alexa only, you can directly call other Bose smart products, Amazon Echo products, and anyone in your contacts list. Simply say, “Alexa, call Mum”, to initiate a call. Or say “Alexa, answer”, to accept an incoming call. You do not need your phone to make or take a call, and it’s free of charge. However, when calling products, both parties are required to have this feature set up and be on Wi-Fi in order to use it.

Currently, Amazon Alexa works with QC35 headphones II, Headphones 700, Home Speaker 300, Smart Speaker 500, Portable Smart Speaker, Smart Soundbar 300, Soundbar 500 and Smart Soundbar 700.

Can I use my streaming music presets from the Bose Music app with the Bose Soundbar 500?

Yes. The Bose Soundbar 500 uses presets via the Bose Music app and the remote control.

What music services can I access from the Bose Soundbar 500?

The Bose Soundbar 500 can play music directly over Wi-Fi from Spotify, Pandora®, TuneIn, iHeartRadio™, Amazon Music, SiriusXM and Deezer. Alexa access on the Bose Soundbar 500 allows voice control of Spotify, Pandora®, TuneIn, iHeartRadio™, Amazon Music, SiriusXM, Deezer and Audible. Apple AirPlay 2 compatibility allows access to Apple Music, and other services may be accessed by playing from a device using a Bluetooth connection. Music and voice services may vary.

What can I do with my voice assistant on the Bose Soundbar 500?

It is not possible to provide a comprehensive list of supported features, because Google Assistant and Alexa are constantly evolving – but the integration of voice control with the new Bose family of smart products supports the vast majority of functionality, including music playback, control of smart home devices, setting timers and alarms, and general information requests. Give it a try – just say “Hey Google”, or “Alexa” – and ask a question.

Can you mix and match the wireless bass modules and soundbars?

Yes. The Bose Soundbar 500, Bose Smart Soundbar 700, the Bose Smart Soundbar 300 and the Bose Bass Module 500 and Bose Bass Module 700 all use the same wireless protocols and can be mixed and matched (e.g. a Bose Smart Soundbar 700 wirelessly paired with a Bose Bass Module 500 or a Bose Soundbar 500 with a Bose Bass Module 700). However, the design language and materials of the Bose Soundbar 500 and the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 product lines were designed to complement the product in the same class (e.g. Bose Soundbar 500 products together and Bose Smart Soundbar 700 products together). So, the glass on the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 products looks more complementary together than if you mixed one Bose Soundbar 500 product with a Bose Smart Soundbar 700 product.

Compatibility: Bose Smart Soundbar 700

Can I use Chromecast to cast audio content to groups of Bose smart speakers and soundbars?

Yes. You can cast audio content to your group of Bose smart speakers or soundbars through the Bose Music app or on the products themselves. Start by creating a group in the Bose Music app and casting to that group, or by pressing and holding the Action button on the connecting device to pair them into a group that’s playing a cast stream. Group your ground floor speakers, or all the speakers in the house and get the party started.
